Liberal Studies Transfer Degree

Get More from Your Transfer Degree

We don't think about starting at MMCC as "starting small." We think about it as dreaming big. Our transfer degrees are designed for flexibility. They promote our students' curiosity, critical reasoning, and confidence, along with their ability to form complex connections between concepts and between themselves and others.

MMCC specializes in general education and introductory-level classes, because they account for so much of what we offer. Our experienced faculty care, and they carefully develop coursework that promotes broad and deep student learning.

Why Liberal Studies?

A Degree Tailored to You

This transfer degree is highly customizable for students wishing to complete half of their bachelor degrees in non-STEM areas. The degree offers numerous elective credits, and its core coursework in math/sciences, social sciences, and humanities aligns with the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).

The flexibility of the degree allows it to be tailored to students’ interests and bachelor degree goals. Our transfer advisors work one-on-one with students to select courses that transfer directly to their university program of choice and fulfill degree requirements.

Beyond course-specific content, this degree engages students in analytical inquiry, using informational resources, considering diverse perspectives, ethical reasoning, and both quantitative and communicative fluency. Graduates complete the degree ready to succeed beyond MMCC, both in their next university and in the workforce.

Among the top skills sought by employers are communication skills, organizational skills, writing, problem solving, planning, and research skills. Students who combine technical skills with a liberal arts education double their eligibility for employment and increase their average salaries by about $6,000.
