About the Laker Correspondents

In 2017, Strategic Communications launched a team of student bloggers, and the Laker Correspondents effort began. The initiative started strong, hit some roadblocks, and was revived in 2021 with the help of Mid's Admissions and Multimedia Studio teams.

Seven students from various communities throughout the region signed on to create weekly content.

In September of 2021, the College's Instagram saw great results with

  • 40.6% more content interactions
  • 20.5% more viewers reached

In September, the College's Facebook Page also saw positive results with

  • Post Reach up 81%
  • Post Engagement up 13%
  • Video Views up 39%

In August and September combined, Mid's Twitter saw 13,844 Tweet Impressions, over 900 Profile Views, and 18 new Followers.

In September the College's YouTube saw nearly 400 more views than usual, which resulted in 37.5 hours of watch time and 5 new subscribers.

"We are so excited to have these students working with us," shared Meghan Keen, Director of Marketing & PR. "From creating a weekly content schedule to scripting and editing to scheduling, it's a team effort, but clearly student-created content is what our followers want to see, which should help share the College's message reach a wider audience."

If you know of a student who is interested in creating social media content, ask them to reach out to us via email at stratcomm@midmich.edu for more information.
