Precision Measurement

Measuring tools.

This training includes six modules that can be completed individually or as a series. Each module focuses on a different category of precision measurement tools.

Precision measuring is the cornerstone of quality in products and services many people rely upon each day. Starrett, Snap-on, and the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) combined their industrial experience and expertise to create certifications that includes hands-on training on instruments that are vital to engineering, manufacturing, and power generation careers to name a few. Those who earn these certifications will be proficient in the use of a variety of instruments ranging from tapes and rules to calipers and micrometers.

At the conclusion of each module, participants will be able to:

  • Understand basic safety guidelines related to the use of precision measurement tools and technology in shops, labs, and on-the-job.
  • Describe the basic design of various precision measurement tools and technology including key features, sizes, and variations.
  • Describe the differences between calibration and field checks, determine when each should be performed, and be able to properly demonstrate both tasks.
  • Demonstrate the practical application of various precision measurement tools and technology, including proper use, obtaining and reading accurate measurements, and performing tool maintenance procedures.
