Situations often change quickly. Due to this, it’s very important to be aware of communications from your instructor. As always, you should check your Mid Michigan College email and Moodle course shell at least once a day.
If your instructor plans to use alternative means of communication, they should inform you of their preferred communication method in a timely manner. It is important that you follow any directions they provide you.
For technology problems, contact Mid’s Help Desk. The Help Desk provides support to students, faculty, and staff who are experiencing technical difficulties, building issues, or just have a question they do not know how to answer.
To report an issue to the Help Desk, fill out a ticket using our online form.
Zoom is a video conferencing platform that is often used for courses, meetings, study groups, etc. This real-time connection will allows you and those you are meeting with to replicate a face-to-face experience as closely as possible.
Your instructor will share a link with you to their Zoom session, and at your scheduled course time, you will need to click this link to access the video conference. You may be prompted to download Zoom. If this happens, follow the prompts to download and install Zoom. If you are not prompted to download the program, you can access the meeting through your browser by clicking “click here to launch the meeting.” If you’re using your phone, you will need to download the Zoom app (iOS) (Android). Alternatively, if you do not have access to a smartphone or data/wi-fi, you can call in to the session through a telephone number that your instructor will provide.
The following video provides more information about joining a Zoom meeting. We also have created a Zoom slide show that might be helpful for you as you learn to navigate remote learning.
For the best experience, we recommend using a pair of headphones when connecting to a Zoom session.
Moodle is Mid’s learning management system (LMS). Your instructor will use Moodle for many different things, including sharing content, posting assignments, creating discussions, and posting grades. Basically, you can think of Moodle as an online classroom. If you’re not comfortable using Moodle, you can complete the Moodle for Students orientation to better familiarize yourself with the platform.
Mid embraces diversity of all kinds, and provides a positive environment for all individuals by consciously making equity and inclusion a priority. If you need assistance to make the content in your course accessible, please contact Student Accommodation Services.
Online courses require the use of a personal computer or tablet and Internet access. For best results, we recommend the following.
Your online course experience will be greatly enhanced by using a cable modem, DSL, or other high-speed connection. You may certainly access your online courses through your cellular connection, but we recommend that you also have access from a high-speed location such as Mid's computer labs or your local library, which will have high-speed access available.
We cannot emphasize enough how your experience will be dramatically better through a high-speed connection. Many online courses offer multimedia components that may require lengthy downloads or video streaming.
Contact the Help Desk with any specific questions.
Please use a recent version of Windows, Mac OS, iOS, or Android.
Please use a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. We do not recommend Chromebooks since they are not compatible with commonly used applications in online learning.
Mid Michigan College uses the suite of applications available through Google Workspace. We recommend gaining familiarity with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, and Mail in order to successfully navigate course content, keep in touch with your instructor, and maximize productivity!
As many courses require the use of additional eLearning applications, we recommend that you check your course syllabi to see if you are required to use any additional software. If you are unable to download the required software or have problems installing, contact the Help Desk for assistance.
Some courses require the use of Respondus Lockdown and Monitor. For the best experience, you will need a laptop with a webcam or an external webcam.
You're beginning online courses at Mid Michigan College - that's so exciting! If you need help, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to help you every step of the way.
Whether on-campus or remote, Mid courses are designed to help prepare you for success. The major difference is that remote courses offer more flexibility to create your own schedule. Participating with fellow learners and actively engaging with course content is still a priority. Instead of in-person lectures, you'll connect through weekly online assignments, discussion boards, and scheduled chats.
Courses delivered remotely are no more or less difficult than on-campus courses. Mid's robust student support services, like the Writing & Reading Center, Math Lab, and tutoring services, offer virtual assistance through Zoom and other technologies. We’re here to help you successfully navigate a remote education at Mid.
Remote courses offer many benefits. From allowing you to personalize your college experience to how you work best, to gaining experience on the latest technologies used in today's workplaces, Mid's remote courses, programs, and pathways offer you an affordable, accessible, exceptional education.
Mid's established tuition rates also apply to remote courses. Learn more about Mid's tuition rates.
Mid offers several types of remote courses. Hybrid courses are approximately 50% online and 50% in the classroom at either the Mt. Pleasant or Harrison Campus. Mid's 100% online courses are just that, 100% online with maximum flexibility. Real-time virtual courses are also 100% online, but require Zoom software so you can attend class during scheduled meeting times throughout the semester.
Some remote courses will require you to take proctored exams or complete lab modules either at Mid or somewhere with proctoring services.
Several of Mid's Programs & Pathways can be completed 100% via remote delivery methods, but there are exceptions. Review our Programs & Pathways listed above organized by the percentage of online completion available.
You need to have access to specific software programs and operating systems on your computer prior to participating in remote courses. Some courses may require additional hardware or software.
