Paying for College / Vet Benefits

Paying for College

Through your veteran benefits, much of your education can be funded. Veterans are also eligible for financial aid under the standard federal provisions. Our Veteran Resources Rep will assist you in determining which programs will work best for your unique situation. He will also work with you to complete and submit the appropriate paperwork.

Don't get overwhelmed. Please contact us to get started on a review of your financial options.

MMCC Veteran Scholarships

In order to assist veterans in seamlessly beginning at MMCC, we have established funding to provide for students who may experience a delay in their veteran benefit funding.

The Christopher Smith & Estelle Bergey Smith Veteran's Award

This award provides funding for students with unique circumstances that are not always accounted for in federal and state aid programs.

For first time veterans: A one semester award for recently discharged veterans who are enrolling at MMCC but do not have their Veterans Education Benefits established yet. To qualify the veteran must have been honorably discharged from active duty in the last 12 months and demonstrate financial need.

Amounts of these awards vary.

Understanding GI Bill Benefits

VA educational benefits can be challenging to understand. That's why we offer one-on-one assistance. Working with our veteran resources representative will allow you to learn what programs you're eligible for, which would work best with your circumstances and goals, and how to complete the application process. We've got your back, and we want to help.

If you're looking to get started on your own, the GI Bill Comparison Tool offers a useful analysis of programs.

The Post-9/11 Benefits Calculator can also be helpful.

MMCC has been authorized by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth State Approving Agency to participate in VA Educational Assistance programs.

Veteran Educational Programs that are available for students attending MMCC include*:

  • Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty
  • Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act 2008
  • Chapter 35 - Survivor's & Dependent's Educational Assistance (DEA)
  • Chapter 1606 - Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves
  • Children of Veterans Tuition Grant

*Because programs change frequently, this list may not be exhaustive.
