Placement Testing Information

Placement testing helps determine which English and Math courses are best suited to your abilities.

Below are the ways we can determine proper placement:

  • For English
    • Most often, English placement is determined by a Guided Placement Questionnaire. Please contact your Mid Mentor for access to this testing instrument.
    • If you have completed a college English course with a C or better at another institution, we can use an unofficial copy of your transcript to determine placement. If you'd like the credit formally transferred in toward a degree, certificate, or MTA stamp, please follow the steps HERE to send us an official copy of your other transcript(s).
  • For Math
    • For students who have recently graduated from high school, we use a multiple measures assessment to determine placement based on your Math SAT score, highest level math course completed in high school and overall high school GPA. Once your Mid Mentor has received a copy of your high school transcript and SAT scores, your placement will be calculated.
    • For students who no longer have access to their high school records and/or have been out of high school for more than 3 years, a free non-traditional math placement test is available in the Testing Center.
    • If you have completed a college math course with a C or better at another institution, we can use an unofficial copy of your transcript to determine placement. If you'd like the credit formally transferred in toward a degree, certificate, or MTA stamp, please follow the steps HERE to send us an official copy of your other transcript(s).
