Commencement 2017

Commencement Ceremony Details: The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at Clare Public Schools, 306 Schoolcrest, Clare.

Commencement will begin for all graduates at 11:00 am and will take approximately 90 minutes.

(In the recent past there have been two ceremonies for various programs; there will be just one ceremony for all programs this year.) Graduates and guests should arrive 30-60 minutes before the start time.

Graduates will receive four tickets each when they purchase caps and gowns from the bookstore. Caps and gowns will be available for purchase April 12-May 5.

Commencement Information:

To Participate in Commencement: Apply for graduation by April 1, 2017, to have your name included in commencement program. Applicants after that date will be eligible to participate in the ceremony, but their name will not be printed in the program.


Caps, Gowns, Etc.: Purchase your Caps & Gowns, Diploma Covers, Frames and extra Tassels in the Bookstore. The bookstores will hold graduation fairs on April 12th from 9-11:30 at Harrison and 1-4:00 in Mt. Pleasant. Caps & Gowns are available for purchase April 12-May 5.


Honors Graduates: Receive honor cords to wear with graduation attire at no cost. Cords can be picked up at either bookstore.

Commencement Details:

Commencement Day: Candidates for graduation report immediately to the "name card" table outside the gym area an hour before the ceremony. An MMCC attendant will provide a printed card used by readers to announce your name. (Students with unusual name spelling or difficult to pronounce names should write the correct pronunciation on the card prior to line-up.) Students will be lined up according to assigned numbers printed on the cards; the numbering system is based on the anticipated degree. Students receiving more than one degree or certificate should decide which group to line up with. Processional begins promptly five minutes before the scheduled ceremony time, so plan accordingly!


Ceremonial Behavior & Protocol: MMCC's commencement ceremony symbolizes the culmination of your academic efforts. It is an important and exciting day for you, your family, and your friends. To maintain the dignity of the commencement ceremony, you may not carry food or beverages into the ceremony or attach to your commencement apparel any objects that detract from the meaning of the occasion.


Ceremony Procedure: Your name will be announced when you cross the stage. You are handed a symbolic scroll and congratulated by members of Board of Trustees. You will then move the tassel on your cap from right to left to indicate status as an MMCC graduate and proceed to stage ramp to have your picture taken by a professional photographer. Additional graduation pictures will be available for purchase. The complimentary picture and ordering information will be mailed with your diploma.


Diplomas will be mailed 6-8 weeks after completing graduation requirements. For many students, it is not known at the time of ceremony whether requirements have been successfully completed. Instructors have one week after the semester to submit grades. If you do not receive your diploma within 6-8 weeks following submission of your final grades, please call 989-386-6622 ext. 395. MMCC will mail your diploma to the address listed on the submitted graduation application. Please make sure to notify the college if your address changes after that submission.
