For STUDENTS

Distance Education Attendance

Initial attendance in online must be substantiated through appropriate documentation. Appropriate documentation can include submission of an academic assignment, taking an exam or quiz, participating in an interactive tutorial, learning via computer-assisted instruction, participating in an online discussion about the academic content of the course in which the learner is enrolled, or initiated contact with an instructor to inquire about the academic subject being studied in a course.

Verification of initial attendance cannot be substantiated through a discussion board post providing a brief personal introduction or explanation of why a learner is excited to take a course, completing a course checklist, using activity logs to show that a student accessed the learning management system, or an email to the instructor inquiring about the syllabus, mechanics of an assignment submission or other “housekeeping” matters.

Last Date of Attendance for Distance Education Classes

Appropriate documentation can include submission of an academic assignment, taking an exam or quiz, participating in an interactive tutorial, learning via computer-assisted instruction, participating in an online discussion about the academic content of the course in which the learner is enrolled and initiated contact with an instructor to inquire about the academic subject being studied in a course.

Verification of last date of attendance cannot be substantiated using activity logs to show that a student accessed the learning management system or an email to the instructor inquiring about the syllabus, mechanics of an assignment submission, or other “housekeeping” matters. Last date of attendance cannot be substantiated through an unfinished quiz or exam, an auto-generated activity log from the learning management system, a forum used only to take attendance, or email correspondence that does not create a record in the learning management system.
