Corrections Officers Now Eligible to Attend Mid Tuition-Free

Corrections officers needing college credits are now eligible to attend Mid Michigan College tuition-free under a new grant program.

Current State law requires corrections officers to complete 15 college credits as a requirement for employment. To help officers complete this requirement, the Michigan Corrections Officer Grant Program supports tuition and fees at local community colleges.

To be eligible for the Michigan Corrections Officer Grant Program, and free tuition, corrections officers must meet the following criteria.

• Be employed by the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC)
• Earned less than 15 college credits
• Received approval from MDOC for the program
• Enroll at a community college in Michigan

“Corrections officers are critical to the safety of our communities and we’re excited to welcome them to Mid, where it is now easier than ever before for them to obtain the credits they need,” said Beth Binder, Director of Admissions. “Mid is centrally located in the state and we offer many courses online, which makes an education more accessible and flexible for students that are working and attending college at the same time.”
