Michigan Hops: Coming to a beer near you!

Class Section | CED.1054.V01 Class Number | 62441‘Hop’ into this class to learn about craft brewing in Michigan, with a special emphasis on hop production. Dr. Rob Sirrine, Senior Extension Educator with Michigan State University, will be your guide. Sirrine is based out of the Traverse City-area, and works closely with the Michigan hop and brewing industries, providing research, education, and outreach. Sirrine is the co-founder of the Great Lakes Hop Working Group, collaborative member of the Michigan Brewers Guild, and an advisor to Hop Growers of Michigan.

Your ‘wine tour’ guide will be Dr. Katherine East, MSU Extension Viticulture Production Specialist. East is located at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center in Benton Harbor, where she leads the applied research and extension efforts to support wine and juice grape growers.

Join Michigan State University Extension Educator Ben Phillips to learn more about the surprisingly diverse vegetable industry in Michigan and what veggies might grow well in your neck of the woods. Phillips works with commercial field and greenhouse vegetable growers who target the fresh, wholesale, and processing markets in the Bay and Thumb-areas of Michigan. His duties entail crop scouting, pest identification, crop management, food safety consultation, resource development, educational programming, and facilitation of research projects with MSU’s main faculty researchers and grower collaborators.
