In order to highlight student work and innovation, Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) hosts the third Student Showcase on each campus. These events, which everyone is encouraged to attend, take place 10AM-4PM April 18 at the College’s Harrison campus and April 19 at the Mt. Pleasant campus.Exhibits feature work completed in the current previous academic years by Mid students.

“The Student Showcase is an important event for staff and students that allows the community to recognize the dedication and collaboration that take place throughout the semester. We hope that everyone will stop by to talk with students about their projects and their learning,” says Lucia Elden, Mid English/Humanities Faculty and Student Showcase Committee Member.

Exhibits include an array of projects and displays, including research papers, speeches, sculpture, short films, posters, and demonstrations. Several students on each campus receive awards for their work.

“We learn so much when we learn from each other,” says Mid President Dr. Christine Hammond. “This event celebrates both our students’ accomplishments and our faculty members’ commitment to supporting student learning.I look forward to seeing the students' work and meeting their families and friends.”

Mid faculty invests great time and energy in creating strategies that help students develop into well-rounded learners. This means that students don’t only learn one discipline and system deeply--their major, or the skills specific to their chosen profession--but they also develop broad, boundary-spanning knowledge that helps them communicate within and between systems, helps them understand each other, and work in teams.

Funding for these events came, in part, from Drs. Laura and Paul Vosejpka, Dow Chemical, MMCC Faculty Senate, and a variety of individuals, groups, and departments at Mid. These generous individuals and groups are sponsoring a number of student awards, including recognition for the ways in which projects demonstrate Degree Qualification Profile proficiencies, such as applied and collaborative learning.

A fundraising lunch will be sold and late-afternoon refreshments will be served for attendees to enjoy. For more information about the Student Showcase events, contact
