The Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) Bowling Teams recently completed a successful 2016-2017 season. The Women’s Team finished 2nd and the Men’s Team took 4th place at the Region XII Championships. Savannah Mayle and Casandra Reid both achieved All-Region for Region XII and All-MCCAA for the women. The teams then turned their attention to the NJCAA National Tournament in Buffalo, New York.
The Women’s Team, consisting of Chelsea Claeys (Clare), Savannah Mayle (St. Ignace), Casandra Reid (Farwell), Desiree Sayles (Clare) and Samantha Warner (Clare), qualified for team competition and as a result were able to compete in the team, doubles, and singles events.
The Women’s Team finished 9th in the nation. The Women also competed in the singles events finishing as follows out of 79 total bowlers: Savannah Mayle 51st, Chelsea Claeys 53rd, Samantha Warner 54th, Desiree Sayles 55th and Casandra Reid 59th.
The Men’s Team qualified Jacob Darnell (Shepherd) and Peter Pineau (Port Austin) who competed in the doubles and singles events.
The Men finished 7th in the nation as a Doubles team. Jacob Darnell finished 31st and Peter Pineau finished 59th out of 98 bowlers in singles competition.
“MMCC is very proud of our student athletes and congratulates them on this achievement,” stated MMCC Athletic Director Ryan Harkrader.
“Our bowlers put in a tremendous amount of effort to compete at a high level and to achieve at a high level academically,” noted Coach Joel Warner. “I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work they put in this season, and we’re looking forward to more achievements this coming year.”
MMCC added bowling as a club sport in the fall of 2015 and added it as an NJCAA conference team in 2016. Currently, MMCC supports three other NJCAA teams: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and cross country. Recruitment for next year is underway.
