Owner of Ginger's Cookie Jar spreads her love of cookies to aspiring bakers at Mid Michigan College

By day, Ginger Kaufman is a kindergarten paraprofessional at Mt. Pleasant’s Ganiard Elementary School. By night, she is the owner of Ginger’s Cookie Jar and teaches Royal Icing Cookie Classes through Mid Michigan College’s Lifelong Learning program.

Whether her students make cookies only once a year, or are seasoned bakers, Kaufman welcomes all skill levels to her monthly classes. The students in her December Royal Icing Christmas Cookie Class have traveled from Clare, Farwell, Greenville, Mt. Pleasant, Ithaca, Rosebush, and 8 Point Lake to learn from Kaufman her tips and tricks for finessing frosting on holiday cookies.

And that her mom encouraged her to follow her passion for cookies throughout her life – which she has.

Sue BergesonSue Bergeson - Lifelong Learner

Moving to this beautiful area, I basically knew no one. I started looking for places to connect with interesting people. The Mid Michigan College Lifelong Learning artistic welding class sounded interesting. It certainly was nothing I had ever thought of doing, but it has been a great opportunity to try something new, something that challenges me in completely different ways.

The instructors have been so kind and patient. They have worked with each one of us, encouraging and teaching us based on what we want to do–it's not cookie cutter. I really appreciate that.

I’ve shown my pieces at several art shows–mostly around Traverse City–and had a lot of fun interacting with folks. It’s a completely new experience.

We all need to try new things, stretch, and grow at every age.
