PROPOSAL DETAILS

On the May ballot, voters in Alma, Ashley, Beal City, Breckenridge, Chippewa Hills, Fulton, Ithaca, Mt. Pleasant, Shepherd, and St. Louis school districts will see two Mid Michigan College Annexation Proposals.
For annexation in a school district to occur, both proposals need to be adopted by voters in that specific school district.

Proposal I: Annexation

Determines whether tax payers in the school district will become part of Mid Michigan College's in-district service area.

Proposal II: Millage

Any taxpayer in Mid Michigan College's district contributes tax funds of 1.2202 mills (the College's current operating millage rate) toward College operations. This proposal asks taxpayers in the school district to accept or reject the 1.2202 taxable rate in order to become part of the College's district.

Millage Rate and Estimated Tax Increase

Mid’s millage rate is assessed on a home’s taxable value, which is usually about half of the fair market value. For example, if you own a home with a fair market value of $100,000, Mid’s millage rate would be assessed on $50,000. In this example, the home owner would pay Mid’s millage rate of $1.2202 for every $1,000 up to $50,000. It would therefore cost the home owner approximately $61/year.

From a different perspective, if annexation is successful, the savings from just one year of tuition (assuming full-time enrollment) would equal nearly 35 years worth of millage assessment.
