When do courses begin? And will they be online, Zoom, or canceled?

You may receive specific communication from your instructor(s) about course meeting times and delivery methods that differs from the information below. In these circumstances, please rely on what was provided to you by your instructor(s).

Mid's course offerings for Winter 2021 include a mix of online, hybrid, and on-campus courses. Students can expect to receive additional information directly from their instructor(s).

The College’s plan also includes a mix of on campus and online resources, academic supports, and services to help students succeed.

The College will take all necessary precautions to ensure that safe and healthy practices are followed, including a variety of measures based on scientific and expert recommendations to limit exposure and maintain a clean environment. Social distancing measures will be enforced, along with the use of face coverings and an enhanced cleaning schedule across each campus. Classrooms will be reconfigured to facilitate social distancing and classroom equipment will be sanitized between classes.

Can I come to campus? Are any buildings open to me?

Campus main entrances are open to students, visitors (community members, vendors, etc.), faculty, and staff based on course scheduling. These hours of operation are likely to differ from pre-COVID operating hours. If you need to access campus facilities outside of your course schedule, contact Safety & Security to ensure access will be available. All students, visitors, faculty, and staff are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.

Student and Employee Screening Protocols

The College is closely following the local health department recommendations, which include requiring self-screenings. As part of our comprehensive strategy for controlling the spread of COVID-19 on campus, we are deploying #CampusClear, a daily self-screening app and campus "Fast Pass." Everyone in our learning community is required to use #CampusClear prior to coming to campus.

There will be signs at all entry doors with QR codes so visitors can download the app. Visitors will be able to use a phone number when signing in to receive the confirmation link.

It only takes a few seconds to self-screen, and your participation helps to keep our campus safe for everyone. Likewise, please be sure to self-screen daily, even if you have no symptoms.

I have limited internet access. What can I do to join my courses remotely?

There are some Internet Provider offers that may assist you with internet access during the pandemic.

Charter is offering free access to Spectrum Broadband and Wi-Fi for 60 days for K-12 and College students who do not currently have internet.

Comcast is offering free internet for 60 days to new families signing up.

ATT is also responding with internet service options.

Most telecom companies are supporting the Keep America Connected pledge. In most cases, late fees are waived and data limits are removed in order to expand cell and data availability. Connect with your current providers to learn about programs for which you are eligible.

Wireless internet access continues to be available in campus parking lots.

I do not have a connected device. What can I do to join my courses remotely?

The College has a very limited number of devices and hotspot internet access devices that can be checked out by students. Because of the limited quantities, the College asks that students respectfully refrain from requesting these devices unless they have no other options. Those students who need to check out a device can do so by submitting a Help Desk ticket.

Are Student Services still available?

Yes. Student Services are available on-campus and via remote delivery methods leading up to and during the Winter 2021 semester.

You can request virtual and on-campus appointments in order to receive admissions, financial aid, academic advising, and registration assistance.

There are a few ways to connect with these teams.

• On-Campus Availability Limited on-campus appointments with Mid Mentors are available and can be scheduled using the Mentor-specific 'Click Here to schedule an appointment' button. On-Campus services are available via appointment only and are limited to the student and Mentor. Walk-ins or those students who would like to have others attend their academic advising appointment with them, may utilize the Mid Mentors Virtual Room via Zoom.
• Virtual “Walk-In” Assistance You can quickly connect with a friendly staff member Monday-Friday from 9am-3:30pm. You will first enter a Virtual Waiting Room. When you reach the front of the queue, you will be directed into a private breakout room with the staff member who can best answer your question(s) or meet your need(s).

Is the Campus Cupboard Food Pantry still available?

Yes, the Campus Cupboard is open, and we've adjusted the amount of items that students can request.

Each week, our security team fills requests received before Noon on Thursday and has orders ready for pickup outside on Fridays.

You can submit an online request and pick up your order on campus.

Are Library and Learning Services available?

Yes. Library & Learning Services are available on-campus and via remote delivery methods leading up to and during the Winter 2021 semester.

• For online databases, students or faculty without a Library/student I.D. card should use a generic barcode number that can be used to authenticate into the Electronic Research Database: 23243004626908
• Laptop checkouts and hotspot internet access devices are available in very limited amounts. We encourage only those students with no other device access to check these out. Requests can be made through a HelpDesk ticket.
• Writing and Reading Center: Consultations can be accessed through Moodle online submission and via Zoom sessions. All students will have 24-hour access to assistance with turnaround timeframes varying by method. Here is a video to help students submit assignments online for feedback, and students can fill out this form to set up a virtual face-to-face meeting. Full details available on the Library and Learning Services site.
• Math Lab: The Math lab continues to be available during its regular hours, but tutors will not be available on campus. Instead, students should access services through the online math lab link. This link allows students to schedule a tutor. Services will be provided at an arranged time through a Zoom meeting.
• Testing services: Visit the Testing Center web page for the latest hours and procedures.

How can I come to campus safely?

Check-In/Health Screening Protocols

• All students, visitors (community members, vendors, contractors, etc.), and employees must complete a self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors. If any of these symptoms are present, individuals are advised not to come to campus.
• Sign-in is not required.
• Main entrance doors are open based on course scheduling.These hours of operation are likely different from pre-COVID operating hours. If you need to access campus facilities, contact Safety & Security to ensure access will be available.
• Face coverings and practicing social distancing are required inside all campus buildings.
• Signs with directions on how to sign-up for E2Campus emergency notifications are posted on all entry doors. If you sign up, you will be notified of any COVID-19 occurrences on campus.
• Signs on Health Screening are also posted on all entry doors.

Accommodations

• If a student is unable to wear face covering of any type, they will be referred to Accommodations.
• If an employee is unable to wear a face covering of any type, they will be referred to Human Resources.
• If a campus visitor is unable to wear a face covering of any type, they will be referred to Safety & Security.
• Medical documentation will be required in order to receive an accommodation for not wearing a face covering.
• The Coordinator of Student Accommodations or the AVP of Human Resources will provide Safety & Security a list of those who are not required to wear face covering while on campus.

Enforcement of Face Coverings Inside Campus Buildings

• Safety & Security is responsible for monitoring and enforcing the use of face coverings inside all campus buildings, and will approach anyone not wearing a face covering, without an accommodation, inside any campus building. Faculty and employees may call Safety & Security if they have a student or visitor who is not wearing a face covering.
• Safety & Security will inquire if the individual has some type of face covering available and if so request that they wear it. If they do not have a face covering available, one will be provided.
• If the individual says they cannot wear a face covering, Safety & Security will refer them to Accommodations or Human Resources.
• If the individual says they do not want to wear a face covering, Safety & Security will inform them that face coverings are required inside any campus building and provide them with a face covering.
• If the individual refuses to wear a face covering, Safety & Security will escort them to the closest exit. If they refuse to leave, the police will be called and they will be escorted out of the building.
• Safety & Security will then complete an Incident Report for tracking purposes and a Maxient Report will be submitted.

What if I’m at elevated risk, sick, or facing challenges that prevent me from attending my courses?

Communicate, communicate, communicate!

We all need to work together and support one another during this time. Keep your instructors, your Mid Mentor, and other Mid staff informed and aware about how you’re feeling, what concerns you have, and what you think you need.

What College events have been canceled?

Limited events will be planned for the Winter 2021 semester. All events will be evaluated and plans will be announced when they are available.

I’m struggling to use Zoom and/or Moodle. How can I get help?

How will the College communicate with me about important changes and updates?

We want you to stay informed and aware. The College will continue emailing you and updating its midmich.edu/covid19 web area.

For course-specific updates and information, you should expect to hear directly from your instructor(s). Consult your syllabi or communications from them about the ways information is shared in each course.

How does this affect athletics?

Athletic practices and select events are scheduled for Winter 2021. Visit midmich.edu/athletics for sport-specific updates.

What about student workers and their jobs?

Communication is Key

Specific information will be provided to student workers by their supervisors. Every student job is different, so we encourage student workers to connect with their supervisors about how their role will be impacted and how to shift to remote work.

General Info for Student Workers

The College recognizes the impact COVID-19 continues to have on its student workers. We realize that many student workers rely on their College job pay, and as such, Mid will honor their employment when at all possible. Student employees will be given access to remote working tasks and projects equal to their average hours as appropriate. Communicate with your supervisor for the latest information.

Are the campus stores open?

Campus Stores are available on-campus during limited hours, and are also operational via the website and email. Contact us at campus-store@midmich.edu for current hours of operation or if you need assistance.

How do I return a textbook that I rented?

If you rented a textbook from a Mid Michigan College Campus Store, you will receive an email with the following instructions and UPS Quantum View link.

UPS Quantum View provides instructions on how to get a shipping label, how to prepare your package, and how to drop off the package or arrange for a pickup. This process is ONLY for RENTAL books from Mid Michigan College.

How do I sell back my textbooks?

• We’ve arranged for you to sell your books ONLINE through Mid’s Campus Store. The next in-store book buyback is scheduled for August 3-7.
• Remember—do not sell any books you’ve rented. Students who rented books have been sent information and return shipping labels and should follow the rental book return process.

Will I receive CARES funds from Mid?

Mid Michigan College has received funds from the federal CARES Act to support students during the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize that the effects of this crisis are both immediate and long term and that all students are facing unforeseen hardships and expenses.

In addition, qualifying students who are facing economic hardships can request funds from Mid's CARES Student Support Fund.

Can I connect with the Career Center remotely for assistance?

Career discussions, polishing resumes, and practicing mock interviews can be effectively done remotely using real-time virtual technologies like Zoom. Career Center staff are available via email, phone, and Zoom 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. To schedule an appointment, contact us at least 12 hours in advance of the preferred appointment time at careercenter@midmich.edu or (989) 317-4613.

Are face coverings required on campus?

All students, visitors, faculty, and staff are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.

In order to provide a safe environment on campus and to protect the health and wellbeing of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the College has made the follow statement in regards to face coverings. Face coverings are required to be worn by all students at all times. Students who cannot wear a mask for a documented reason must contact Amy Dykhouse (adykhouse@midmich.edu) in Accommodations. Violations of this policy are considered a breach of the Student Code of Conduct and will be referred to Security and the Director of Student Conduct as appropriate.

What is the drop deadline for Winter 2021 courses?

The DROP deadline for Winter 2021 courses has been extended. You now have extra time to decide whether to drop a course or not. This extended deadline will give you time to try out the course and become familiar with the instructional method before deciding to drop the course. The new DROP date for most courses is Friday, January 22 – contact your Mentor or see the Academic Calendar for details. You have until that new date to DROP a course with a full refund. After that date, you will not receive a refund.

Attention Students with Financial Aid: Check with Financial Aid BEFORE dropping courses. You may be required to return a portion of your aid (including loans) and it could affect your future aid eligibility.
