Becoming a college student is easier than you might think, and you don’t need to figure it out on your own. From Admissions to Mid Mentors and Academic Advisors to Financial Aid, the teams at Mid are excited to meet you, and learn how we can help you achieve your goals.

Be sure to indicate on your admissions application that you’re eligible for VA Educational Benefits.
Once you've applied, give yourself a pay on the back. You've taken the first big step. And you're already being connected with Mid's Veteran Resources Representative and your Mid Mentor, who are both ready and waiting to help you throughout your time at Mid.

STEP 1: Get your Financial Aid in order.
Apply for your Letter of Eligibility for VA Educational Benefits at the Veterans Online Application Website. It’s important that you retain a copy for your records.
When education benefits are approved, the VA mails you a certificate of eligibility. This takes approximately 6-8 weeks. This certificate is issued only once, and indicates the number of months you are eligible for benefits. A copy of this notification must be provided to Financial Aid at Mid.
To collect your educational benefits, you must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Upon completion of verification of enrollment, classes are certified and sent electronically to the VA Office. Afterwards, you need to verify enrollment monthly.
You may need to request the following documents as well.
- DD214 (Military Service Records) If you need to request a copy of your DD214, visit www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/.
- Military Transcripts Visit this website to request your transcripts, https://jst.doded.mil/official.html.
Apply for Federal Financial Aid
Beyond veterans benefits, you may be eligible for other forms of federal financial aid. If you haven't yet, you should begin this process. It takes a minimum of a few weeks to process financial aid for new students.
File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov to determine your eligibility for grants, loans, scholarships, and work study.
Be sure that you add Mid's school code [ 006768 ] to your FAFSA form.

STEP 2: Set up your MidMich Email and Online PORTAL.
You should set up your Mid Michigan College online Portal and email right away. Important updates and information begin right away. This is your College email and is used for all official College communications.
Please complete the following steps:
- Go to midmich.edu.
- Click on the Portal link in the upper right hand corner.
- Click on the Account setup link in the upper right hand corner.
- Read the information to set up your username and password.
- Click on Login in the upper right corner.
- Click the Email link in the upper left corner to get your email.

STEP 3: Send us your official Transcripts.
Request that an official transcript be mailed to Enrollment & Registration from each college/university you have attended. Unofficial transcripts are not evaluated. Transcripts that you deliver to Mid are considered unofficial even if they are sealed. Expect an email from us once your transcript(s) have been evaluated.

Complete additional placement testing (if necessary)
Appropriate placement in courses promotes your success and allows us to assist you in selecting courses that align with your current skill levels. If you do not have access to transcripts or test scores, you may need to do additional placement testing. Your Mid Mentor can help you determine what you need to submit or what testing needs to be completed.
STEP 4: Attend Orientation.
All incoming students must attend an orientation. At orientation, you connect with other students, learn success skills, and meet with your College support team.
Academic Advisors are also available to help you schedule and register for classes.
