Network Connection Information

Wireless

  • Student - 'Mid’s Bring Your Own Device' (BYOD) access. This is used for all devices not owned and managed by College.
  • Mid Staff - Primarily used for devices owned and managed by the College. This allows expanded access for employees to internal applications such as Colleague, CEOImaging, and other apps not available off-site.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to connect to wireless try the following tips.

  • Check that your wireless is enabled and airplane mode is disabled.
  • Try turning off wireless, then turn it back on. This will help the device reset and refresh the list of networks it may see, especially when moving between locations on campus.
  • Forgetting a wireless network, or disconnecting and then reconnecting, can help clear up issues with connectivity.
  • Limit the use of high-bandwidth apps and the number of devices. Keep in mind that wireless is a shared resource. When people stream high-definition movies or download large files, the amount of bandwidth consumption is high which greatly diminishes wireless performance.

Printing

PaperCut is used in the open labs, library, and atrium areas to meet your printing and copying needs.

Every student is given a free printing balance of $10 each semester. Full-time students taking 12 or more credit hours can request an additional $10 when the balance runs low.

To add money to your account here are the following options

  • To pay by cash or check you may go to Student Services at the Harrison or Mt. Pleasant Campuses, pay the amount you would like to add, and bring a receipt to the computer lab or IT and an IT team member can add the money to your account.
  • To pay with a credit card, just click on add credit when logged into your PaperCut account, visit print.midmich.edu. You may add in the following increments: $5, $10, $15, $20. There is no convenience fee when using a credit card for adding money to your account.

Unused dollars added to accounts are carried over to the new semester.

File storage

  • We recommend taking advantage of the Google Suite cloud storage app, Drive.
  • To access your Drive go to midmich.edu, choose myMid, then Drive.
  • When you are in computer labs or using any of the available public machines, use the online version of the software so you can save directly to your Drive. If you must download or use a desktop version of the software, make sure you upload the file to your Drive before logging out of the computer as any locally saved documents are erased from lab or public computers.

File Stream and Back Up & Sync

  • File Stream and Backup & Sync are two Google Suite applications that can be used on primary-use devices be it a College-owned device or personal device. These applications are not available on public computers on campus including computer labs.
  • With Drive File Stream, you stream your Drive files directly from the cloud to your Mac or PC, freeing up disk space and network bandwidth. Because Drive files are stored in the cloud, any changes you or your collaborators make are automatically updated everywhere. You’ll always have the latest version. Accessing your files through File Stream also allows them to open in their native application be it a Microsoft Word document, a Google Doc, or a PDF.
  • You can also make Drive files available for offline access. These cached files sync back to the cloud when you're online, so the latest version is available on all your devices.
  • Backup & Sync is an app for Mac and PC that backs up files and photos safely in Google Drive and Google Photos, so they're no longer trapped on your computer and other devices. Just choose the folders you want to back up and that app will take care of the rest.
