On Saturday, February 11, Michigan State University Extension and 4-H partnered with Mid Michigan Community College to offer local families a day of free outdoor related activities.
The Winter Blast event promoted healthy habits and encouraged children to explore new activities available in the local region. Families enjoyed snowshoeing and geocaching with Jay’s Sporting Goods, dog sledding demos, making trail mix, a hockey shootout, winter mammal and bird displays by Chippewa Nature Center, making pine cone bird feeders with Clare County 4-H, riding fat tire bikes with Ray's Bike Shop and making s'mores.
Attendees also had the chance to learn what Clare County Parks and Rec, Mid Michigan Community College, and MSU Extension have to offer. Approximately 250 people attended the event from many different counties including Clare, Isabella, Gladwin, Osceola, Midland, Lake, Bay, Saginaw, Ottawa, and Mason.
A drawing was held for a $25 Jay’s Sporting Goods Gift Card and the lucky winner was Aliria Kirchofer of Shepard.
