The Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) Cross Country teams were recently awarded National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Awards for the 2016 season.
The Women’s Team received the All-Academic Team Award, recognized for their 3.84 average GPA ranking seventh in the Nation. The following athletes received individual awards: Kristin Shoaf (Gladwin), Lexi Strope (Mt. Pleasant), Shaylin Anderson (Bullock Creek), Abigail Moeggenberg (Shepherd), and Mary Pierce (Alma).
The Men’s Cross Country Team celebrated two individual award winners—Nick Snider (Remus) and Andrew Travis (Shepherd).
“MMCC is very proud of our student athletes and congratulates them on this achievement,” stated MMCC Athletic Director Ryan Harkrader.
“Our runners put in a tremendous amount of effort to compete at a high level and to achieve at a high level academically as well,” noted Coach Dan Gibson. “I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work they put in this season, and we’re looking forward to more achievements this coming year.”
MMCC added cross country as a club sport in the fall of 2015 and added it as an NJCAA conference team in 2016. Currently, MMCC supports three other NJCAA teams: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and bowling. Recruitment for next year is underway.
