Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) recently hosted a Military Bowl event on February 25 at Riverwood Lanes in Mt. Pleasant. The event raised over $900 for the Student Veterans of America Chapter housed at MMCC. Student veterans, their families, supporters, and over 20 local businesses combined their efforts to make this event a great success.
“Fourteen teams and 55 bowlers participated in the event,” noted Chris Stanton, Veteran Resource Representative for the Michigan Veteran Education Initiative at MMCC . “The event was very well received and State Representative Jason Wentworth joined us at the event to visit with everyone, which was an honor.”
MMCC’s Student Veterans of America Chapter provides peer-to-peer networking for veterans who are attending MMCC. The chapter advocates for student veterans, and helps bridge the campus-to-career transition. The group coordinates on-campus and community outreach activities, facilitates pre-professional networking, and provides a touchstone for student veterans in higher education.
“MMCC knows that student veterans face issues that are not common to all students,” said Matt Miller, VP of Student & Community Relations at MMCC. “Events like this one help create a community that student veterans can rely on during their college journey.”
MMCC was recently awarded Gold status as a veteran friendly school from the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency for efforts focused on assisting student veterans on campus. Mid is proud to offer student veterans a dedicated veteran resource representative and resource centers on each campus.
MMCC plans to host the second annual Military Bowl event in 2018. For more information about how MMCC supports student veterans, visit midmich.edu/veterans or contact Chris Stanton at email@example.com or (989) 773-6622.
