Mid Michigan College Men’s Basketball student-athlete, Dre Tuominen, recently announced that he has committed to continue his education and basketball career at Olivet College, an NCAA Division Three school in Lower Michigan, where he plans to major in Nursing.
“Their coach (Sam Hargraves) was very persistent in recruiting me throughout the year,” Tuominen explained. “It meant a lot to me that he was persistent, because there was a lot of coaches that reached out that were kind of like on the fence, like, we’ve got a spot for you if you’re interested. But they didn’t really show that they wanted me as much as Olivet did, so that was a big factor in deciding to go there.”
Dre Tuominen, a 2017 Negaunee High School graduate, played for Bay College in the 2017-18 season, took a year off from basketball, and then played for Mid in the 2019-2020 season. Tuominen led the Lakers to a 19-10 record and averaged 15.2 points per game.
"I'm extremely thankful for the friendships I have built on and off the court while playing for Mid. And being able to set team records during my only year there was an incredible accomplishment as well," shared Tuominen.
"I am very thankful to have coached Dre at Mid Michigan College this past season. He brought leadership, toughness, and really got comfortable within our system as the season progressed. He made some huge plays to help lead us to a record setting season. Dre will be missed, but we are very excited to see him continue his academic and athletic career for Coach Hargraves and Olivet College," noted Kaleb House, Men’s Basketball Head Coach at Mid Michigan College.
Currently, Mid supports six NJCAA teams: men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s bowling.
