As part of a leadership class project, Jayde Harnick, a sophomore at Mount Pleasant High School, has created a fundraiser to support a one-time scholarship to be awarded to a Mid Michigan College second-year Radiography Program student graduating in 2020/2021.

Jayde is the daughter of Sandy Harnick, who is a 1995 graduate of Mid's Radiography Program and clinical instructor for the program at MidMichigan Health - Gratiot.

Donations can be made to the MidMichigan Health-Gratiot Radiology Department, and applicants for the scholarship must submit an essay to explain how COVID-19 has impacted them and demonstrate financial need.

"My mom, Sandy, will be accepting donations now through May 29. Donors will be recognized by paper hearts hung on the Radiology Waiting Area window, with their name if they choose to do so," explained Jayde.

Any Mid Michigan College second-year Radiology Student graduating 2020/2021 who is interested in applying must submit a 500 word essay explaining how COVID-19 has affected them. The essay should also demonstrate financial need for the scholarship. The essay must be submitted to Sandy Harnick at Harnick4@aol.com by May 29, 2020 no later than 10:30am. No late essays will be accepted.

The selection and announcement of the scholarship recipent will be done collaboratively between Jayde, Sandy, and LouAnn Goodwin, Director of Imaging Sciences at Mid. The scholarship will be deposited into the students Mid Michigan College account and documented with the intended use for “educational expenses” so as to not affect any tuition benefits the student may have.

In the event that there are no applications submitted, all proceeds will be donated to the Mid Michigan College Radiology Program to be used for educational purposes.

For additional details, contact Louann Goodwin, Director of Imaging Sciences, at lrgoodwin@midmich.edu.
