Mid Michigan College Laker Basketball student-athletes took on Alpena Community College Wednesday, November 17 at Morey Courts in Mt. Pleasant.

The women’s team put on an offensive clinic and topped Alpena 99-62. The team saw solid contributions across the board, including six players who scored in double digits.

Mid was led by Jade Kauffman (Houghton Lake) who shot 8-10 from the floor and 6-8 from beyond the 3-point line, for a total of 24 points and 3 assists off the bench. Satori Griffin (Mt. Pleasant) was just 2 rebounds shy of a double-double, and added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Alexys Carlstrom (Harrison) scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, while Olyvia Nederhood (McBain), Gracie Nowak (Morrice), and Olivia Nelson (Beal City) all scored in the double digits.

Coach JT Cleveland and his Lakers improved to 2-1 on the season and take to the court again this weekend at Schoolcraft College on November 20.

The men’s team also bested Alpena 80-57 in a fast-paced, defensive-focused contest with strong performances from returners Noah Pruitt and Satchel Love.

The team was led by Noah Pruitt (Okemos) who shot 4-6 from the 3-point line with a total of 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Satchel Love (Detroit) added 2 rim-rocking dunks while accumulating a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Manny McLemore (Wentzville) also had a strong performance with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Coach House and the Lakers improved to 2-1 on the season and next travel to Schoolcraft College to take on the Ocelots on November 20.

“Our student-athletes had great performances against Alpena,” noted Ryan Harkrader, Mid Michigan College Athletic Director. “I’m confident that we’ll continue to see positive results that reflect their hard work as they continue their efforts this season.”

Mid Michigan College competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) against other community colleges for conference and State championships. The Lakers also compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for national tournaments. Mid currently fields six varsity teams in the following sports: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's and women's bowling, baseball, and softball.
