Business Transition Event Held at MMCC

Over 60 business owners and professionals recently convened at Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) to learn about buying and selling a business.

The Mid Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted this “How to Buy and Sell a Business” event in response to an increasing demand from clients seeking advice on the topic. The event was sponsored by Mercantile Bank.

"At some point, every entrepreneur reaches a point where they leave the business they launched and grew. Some are looking to retire, while others are looking to pursue new opportunities. Locally, the Mid Michigan SBDC is well-positioned to help firms develop a roadmap to navigate this process," according to Tony Fox, SBDC Regional Director.

The event included training and discussion focused on business valuation, sale preparation, transition planning, due diligence, and options for financing a purchase.

“Business transition is not something an owner tackles every day. Not only is this a critical milestone for a company, it can also have more widespread implications when multiple jobs are at stake, which is why it needs to be handles with care and excellence,” said Jose Navarrete, SBDC Growth Consultant.
