Men’s and Women’s Bowling Earn Top-10 Finishes at NJCAA Championships

Mid’s Men's and Women’s Bowling teams recently competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in Cheektowaga, New York.

The Men’s team finished 7th, marking the highest finish in Men's Bowling team history at Mid.

Jase Clairmont (Birch Run) finished 5th in the singles event out of 130 total bowlers with a 684 series. The doubles pairing of Clairmont and Conner Yule (Farwell) placed 7th out of 61 pairs with a combined pinfall of 1,294. Jase also ended All-Events in 17th place with a total pinfall of 2,491, which was good for a 207 average over 12 games of competition. This was the highest finish any men's bowler has had for Mid Michigan College in the National Tournament in All-Events.

The Lakers also had several consistent performances, including Conner Yule finishing 36th overall with a total pinfall of 2,374; Hunter Rapaich (Tecumseh) and Cody O'Neil (Bay City) finished 18th in the Doubles Event and 42nd and 43rd respectively in All-Events out of the 130 bowler field. Rapaich also had a total pinfall of 2,358 over 12 games and O'Neil finished with 2,355.

The Women’s team finished 8th, another top 10 finish for the program, and was the second highest placing Michigan Community College Athletics Association (MCCAA) school, only trailing Jackson College who finished 5th.

The top finisher in All-Events was Lauren Speers (Fowler), who placed 49th overall with a total pinfall of 1,851 over 11 games. The top finishers in the Singles Event were Siera Feldpausch (Fowler) who placed 27th out of 100 bowlers, Lauren Speers who finished 30th, and Karissa Schlak (Fowler) who finished 31st. Patricia Pineau (Port Austin) and Lauren Speers finished 28th overall in the Doubles Event.

Mid Michigan College competes in the MCCAA against other community colleges for conference and State championships. The Lakers also compete in the NJCAA for national tournaments. Mid currently fields teams in the following sports: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's bowling, women's bowling, baseball, softball, bass fishing, and clay target shooting. Cross Country for both men and women will join the roster in the fall of 2023.
