Discover Birds on the Chippewa River Trails

Mt. Pleasant Campus

Sign up today! Explore the Mt. Pleasant City Chippewa River Trails, which are surprisingly active during migration. As we wander through the Nelson, Mill Pond, and Chipp-a-waters Parks expect to see warblers, tanagers, orioles, thrushes, flycatchers, and sparrows using the floodplain as a stopover during migration. The walk is along paved and compacted earth trails for a total of 2-3 miles.
If there is interest from the group, we can also visit Grewes Lake located on East Airport Road.

Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge Birding Field Trip

Mt. Pleasant Campus

Sign up today! Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is a maze of wetlands, grasslands, and river bank habitats known for its forest birds. A 7.5 mile wildlife drive allows easy access to the refuge. The Ferguson Bayou Trail, a half mile in length, allows access to an assortment of floodplain breeding birds. Be prepared for mosquitoes and deer flies. Sunscreen is recommended. If there is interest from the group, we could also visit the Green Point Nature Center.
