The MMCC Community Theatre was established in 1975 by Theatre Director, Linda Loomis. In our three decade history we have presented more than 100 plays ranging from children’s participation plays that tour area elementary schools to on-campus performances to dinner theatre at the Doherty Hotel in Clare.
From the beginning we have been a “Community Theatre” welcoming anyone with a love for the stage to audition and participate in our plays. Volunteers behind the scene are always welcome as well as potential actors!
In 1978, prior to beginning the plays at the Doherty, the MMCC Theatre took our production of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS to the Camelot Dinner Theatre in Midland. This proved to be the impetus to begin doing our musicals at the Doherty.
MMCC had a 22 year partnership with the Doherty Hotel in Clare. During those years MMCC presented 23 musicals and two comedies. We began by doing 4 performances of each production and by the time our partnership ended in 2002 we were doing 8 performances which included 3 evenings, 3 weekday matinees and 2 Sunday brunch matinees. Currently the MMCC Theatre produces 2 plays per year. During our Winter and Fall semesters we do either a comedy, drama or mystery.
MMCC have been fortunate to have a number of exceptional directors and technical directors in the years since Linda Loomis' departure from MMCC. With our unconventional, but very intimate, theatre and the demands of touring it takes creative and thrifty individuals to get the job done right and accomplish their magic while staying on budget.
Some of the actors who have passed across our stage have gone on to direct on a community level or even do some professional work. Carolyn Montini moved to New York and did some off-Broadway theatre in the 1970’s. Alan Reiss did some professional commercial work in California at about the same time. Mark Saltzman, who performed in, and directed a play at MMCC, toured with "Bear in The Big Blue House" in 2002-2003. Mackenzie Trevor who has performed in 5 productions at MMCC Theatre currently landed a leading role in an Independent Production Company Sitcom, "Roommates" based out of Flint Michigan. They are in the process of filming the pilot episodes. We are still looking forward to the day that one of our "alumni" hits it big in show business, Mackenzie Trevor is on his way.
