MidAlert! FAQs

Why should I participate?

Mid Michigan College has subscribed to e2Campus to send time-sensitive communication to students, faculty and staff. By employing a variety of electronic communication tools, such as text messaging, email, and RSS feeds, emergency messages can be sent simultaneously to registered campus community members via cell phone, home phone, and WiFi enabled devices.

How can I participate?

By default, currently enrolled students will be automatically called at their newest phone number on file to alert them of emergency situations. If you are a Mid student, faculty or staff member, you can adjust your MidAlert! notification preferences online using the Mid Account Profile web page.

Can I change my cell phone number?

Yes. Visit the phones page within your account profile to change the phone numbers you have on file with the college. MidAlert! notifications can be customized for each phone number on file.

How do I remove myself from receiving MID Message/Alerts?

If you would like to opt-out of phone calls or text messages, you can select this option using the Mid Account Profile web page. This preference must be confirmed every year, otherwise the default notification setting will take effect.

Will I receive unsolicited messages ("spam") on my cell phone or email account?

No. Our messaging provider enforces a zero spam policy. Further, our text messaging provider does not sell or share the contact information of our subscribers to third party marketers.

Do I need to install software on my phone?

No, as long as your phone can receive text messages. Please make sure your carrier information is listed correctly on the Mid Account Profile web page.

Will this cost me anything?

Maybe. Depending on your wireless carrier provider and the plan you have, you may be charged a nominal fee (i.e. approximately 10 to 20 cents) to receive SMS text messages. If you have an unlimited text messaging plan, there should be no additional charge.

What type of messages will I receive?

You will receive text messages based on the types of notifications you requested on the Mid Account Profile web page. You may also receive an occasional test message.

Why did I receive a "truncated' message?

Contact your cellular service provider to obtain information with regard to possible limitations.

What should I do if I mistyped my phone number during set-up?

Log into the Mid Account Profile web page to review and modify your phone number information. Changes will take effect within 24 hours.

Why did I receive an incorrect validation code message?

You will receive this message if you have requested the validation code multiple times. You should only request the code once from Mid Michigan College.

Can I sign-up others for this service?

No. Users of the MidAlert! system can have up to two cell phones numbers registered. So if you wanted a spouse or parent to get emergency notifications, for example, you could add their number in addition to yours.

I received a message that indicates that I do not have text messaging on my phone. What should I do?

Contact your cellular service provider to obtain text messaging information.

Can I receive emails only instead of text messages?

Yes. All active @midmich.edu email accounts will receive emergency MidAlert! messages even if you opt-out of voice and text messages. You can always add text messaging at a later time.

Can I receive a voice call instead of a text message?

Yes. By default, currently enrolled students will be automatically called at their newest phone number on file to alert them of emergency situations. Non-enrolled students, faculty, and staff members can also receive voice calls by adjusting their preferences on the Mid Account Profile web page. These preferences must be reviewed and confirmed every year; otherwise, the default setting will take effect.

I am a visitor to the Campus. Can I enroll in MidAlert!?

Visitors to Mid Michigan College can enroll to receive MidAlert! text messages by texting the word: visitmmcc to 79516.

Visitors that enroll will be placed into a ‘temporary’ MidAlert!’ notification file for the day, the telephone number provided will be deleted regularly requiring visitors to enroll each time they are on campus.
