Mid Michigan College is excited to add multi-factor authentication (MFA) to our Google Workplace (Email, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) as the first phase of our multi-factor solution. Google MFA will be available to all students February 1, 2021 and required for all employees.
MFA adds an additional layer of security when you sign in to an account by requiring you to log in with a password and an additional security measure (e.g., Google prompt using a Google app, a security code that is delivered to a mobile device via text message or mobile app, or backup codes). This multiple login process prevents up to 98 percent of phishing attacks.
This process is fairly simple to do and Google has provided an excellent site that walks you through the process. We recommend using the Google prompts option (which uses the Gmail app on your mobile device) or the Google Authenticator app. If you do not have or want an app on your device, there is also a text/voice option available.
Each device is different so here are some links based on various operating systems.
