Public Health - AAS - Guided Pathway

Mid's Public Health Academic Pathway was developed through a collaboration with Central Michigan University (CMU) Community/Public Health division and Everyday Life Consulting LLC, which offers the Community Health Worker Certificate Training.

Mid has developed laddered educational opportunities beginning with a rapid-training Community Health Worker (CHW) certificate which connects to the Associate degree in Public Health. This prepares students to join the workforce or transfer to CMU for a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Master’s degree in Public Health.

The development of this program stems from The Community Colleges and Public Health (CC&PH) Project, a collaboration between the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and the League for Innovation in the Community College. In 2003, the Institute of Medicine recommended that, “…all undergraduates have access to education in public health.” With an increased need for a community and public health workforce, this project was designed to encourage a continuum of education in public health, beginning at the community college level with a special focus on entry-level employees in need of basic educational skills and an introduction to basic principles of public health. The collaboration between Mid and CMU is leading this wave of the future in Michigan with this innovative preparation of public health workers.
