Graduates

What must I do to be eligible for graduation?

When should I apply for graduation?

Early!  Before the end of your last semester!  We recommend applying by October 1st for graduation in May or by March 1st for December graduation.  This allows time to certify your eligibility and inform you of any requirements you have left to complete.

Will I graduate with honors?

Graduation with honors is determined by cumulative GPA at the end of your last semester.  A cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.89 denotes graduation with honors.  A cumulative GPA of 3.9-4.0 denotes graduation with high honors.  One-half of the credit toward your program must be taken at MMCC to graduate with honors.

Can I earn more than one degree, certificate, etc. from MMCC?

Yes, you may earn multiple degrees, certificates, or training credentials.  However, extra totals of credits will be required -- twelve additional credits for each additional Associate's degree, six for Certficates of Achievement or Training Credentials. Each course of study requires a separate graduation application.

What's the difference between "graduation" and "commencement"?

"Graduation" refers to completion of coursework. Students do this in December (at the end of Fall Semester), May (at the end of Winter Semester), June (at the end of Spring Semester), and August (at the end of Summer Semester).

"Commencement" is the ceremony held for those who have completed Associate's Degrees or Certficates of Achievement. Currently, MMCC holds one Commencement each May at the Harrison Campus. Students are eligible to participate in Commencement if they have graduated in the previous Fall Semester or have applied to graduate in the Winter, Spring, or Summer Semesters.  Click here for the most current information on commencement.

What are Catalog rights?

Graduation requirements for a degree, certificate, or training credential are based on requirements printed in the Catalog at the time of your initial, continuous attendace for up to 7 years following that publication.  If the program requirements are altered in subsequent Catalogs, you may follow the new requirements if it is to your advantage.  Continuous attendance is defined as having attended at least one semester per academic year.  If you have been working on your degree for more than 7 years, you must follow the requirements printed in the current Catalog.
