- MMCC Hosts Mountain Bike Race Fundraiserby mmiller at 4:36pm on Jul 7th, 2010
Mid Michigan Community College is hosting a mountain bike race, the Sweat Shaker, on August 7th, at 10:30am. The race will be held on the newly developed bike trail on the Harrison Campus.
Last year, the Northeast Chapter of the Michigan Mountain Bike Association worked to develop a wonderful mountain bike trail through the woods on the Harrison Campus. The group, along with the MMCC Foundation, is now sponsoring a race, with proceeds benefiting the MMCC Lakers athletic program.
The race is set in a beautiful forest with massive trees and rolling hills. The trail sports long, gentle climbs as well as steep, rough terrain. The 11 mile race course also features a nice combination of fast flowing trails, tighter technical trails, and a few short sections of hilly two tracks. This course will be challenging and fun for all racers.
Depending on their class, racers will either complete just over two laps for a 25 mile race or one lap for an 11 mile race. The race is open to all riders and has multiple classes and divisions. Early registration is only $25 and $35 the day of the race with cash payouts for the winners.
Snacks and refreshments will be available or riders can opt to stay for the Laker Luau - a fundraising dinner for the athletic program. The luau will feature a full barbeque-style meal, live music, and an opportunity to meet the MMCC Lakers coaching staff.
