- MMCC to Offer Dialysis Technician Programby mmiller at 8:23am on Sep 21st, 2009
Beginning this fall, the M-TEC at Mid Michigan Community College, in cooperation with Regional Dialysis Service Centers, will begin offering a four week course to train students to be dialysis technicians.
This 60-hour program will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties required of dialysis technicians. Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, which filter normal water products and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer perform this function. The technicians are responsible for direct patient care.
"The dialysis technician plays a vital role as part of a dialysis team. This is a great opportunity to learn the skills needed for a high demand, good paying job," said Karen Kleinhardt, the program coordinator. "The class consists of 40 hours of classroom instruction and 20 hours of laboratory experience. Although there isn't a clinical piece to this training, the program prepares them for that next step."
To be eligible for the program, students must be trained as a Certified Nurse Aide or other certified experience such as a paramedic, medical assistant, or emergency medical technician.
The first class begins on September 28, 2009. If you would like more information about this program, please contact Karen Kleinhardt at 989-386-6629 or kkleinhardt@midmich.edu.
