Placement Testing

We'll help select English and Math courses that are suited to your abilities. There are three* ways to determine proper placement:

  • Complete the ACCUPLACER computer-based, adaptive placement test in the Academic Support Center (ASC) at our Harrison or Mt. Pleasant, Pickard campuses. Testing is usually available on a walk-in basis, but may need to be scheduled during exam week or peak registration times. See the Offices & Programs list for ASC contact information.
  • Bring in verification of ACT scores earned within the past 3 years. An ACT score report or a high school transcript that notes your ACT scores will do. If your Reading score was not a 21 or higher, you'll still need to take the ACCUPLACER to determine which English course is best for you.
  • If you've completed English or Math with a "C" or better at another higher education institution, you can bring in an unofficial copy of your transcript for verification or request that the school send us a transcript if you'd like the credit formally transferred in toward a degree, certificate, or MACRAO stamp.

*AP & CLEP scores may also yield credit. The ASC does offer credit by examination with a fee for some entry-level courses.
