Personal, Academic, & Civic Engagement (PACE)
What do we do?
PACE brings together adults over fifty who are excited about learning. Classes, tours, and other activities are arranged according to the interests of members. A wide variety of classes are available with something of interest to everyone! Members receive a schedule of activities each quarter and the opportunity to become active in presentation and course development.
What is membership all about?
PACE courses are programs of educational and social opportunities designed for adults ages fifty and beyond. Participation offers personal growth, camaraderie and a sense of community.
Ages: Fifty and older or retired
Activities: Nearly two dozen non-credit courses planned for the first year.
Fees: $50 annual membership per person, $80 annual membership per couple. Most activites are no cost. Some classes and programs have small fees to cover expenses.
Location: Activities are held at various locations throughout Gladwin & Clare Counties.
Benefits: Special events and field trip discounts, discount at the MMCC bookstore and cafeteria. Non-members may attend PACE courses on a space-available basis for $10 per class; plus any applicable class fee.

Monthly Events:
Silver Sneakers Club - Tuesdays and Fridays - at the Gladwin Community Arena -Participants pay $4 which may be covered by insurance companies like Medicaid, Humana, Blue Cross. A short seminar kicks off each day and trainer Chris Carnahan works with participants to make the most of a weekly walking routine. Register with Gladwin Community Arena 989-246-4386-Let them know you are a PACE of MMCC member.
PACE Drop-In Coffee Hour - Mondays 9 AM - Blue Ribbon Bakery Gladwin. Take advantage of this opportunity to network with other PACE members. Enjoy coffee and a donut for a special $1.89 price. Let them know you are a PACE member. No registration necessary.
CPR Heartsaver course
This American Heart Association CPR class teaches the skills of CPR and choking aid for adults, children and infants. At the end of class a completion card will be issued. Suitable for daycare providers. Please call MidMichigan Health Line at 800-999-3199 to register. THIS IS NOT A CERTIFICATION COURSE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A PARTICIPATION CARD.

Participants will learn: What is a computer, what is an operating system, what are the basic parts of a desktop computer, what are the basic parts of a laptop computer, what are all the buttons, sockets, and slots used for, and, how do I connect to the Internet.
Computer Basics, Windows XP/Vista: June 11, 2010
Participants will learn how to use the Window XP/Vista desktop, launch programs and access Internet Explorer from the START menu. They will learn how to operate the program using files, folders, drives, my documents, my computer, and windows explorer. Students will also learn to create shortcuts to the desktop, use the recycle bin and search for files and folders.
Working with text documents (Microsoft Word2007): June 18, 2010
Participants will learn how to set up your Word environment, text basics, saving documents, proofing features, printing, creating new documents, formatting text, working with text boxes, and inserting clip art.

Participants will learn: What is the internet, what is the World Wide Web, what are modems, browsers, and ISPs, types of internet access, and surfing strategies.
Email; what it is, receiving & sending mail, using attachments: July 16, 2010
Participants will learn: What is email, how to send email, reply and forward, create and send attachments, and formatting email.
Internet Safety, Viruses, Malware & Online shopping: July 23, 2010
Participants will learn, how to access the internet, how to recognize and avoid viruses, worms, Trojan horse spyware, ads, cookies, hackers, identity theft, and how to shop without intrusions.

Cross Country Skiing -Take advantage of the Gladwin County Recreation Area on Pratt Lake Road in Gladwin. Its beautifully groomed trails, wildlife and scenery will take your breath away. Bon fire sites available, plan to make a day of it - it's free, sponsored by the Seebeck Family Fund and the Gladwin County Trail Association. No registration necessary.
